Lexington, OH – The Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International on August 3 was Austin Cindric’s first career Xfinity Series win.
Taking 54 tries to record the first one, he didn’t have to wait nearly as long for his second.
Piloting his No. 22 Team Penske PPG Ford Mustang, Cindric was able to hold off Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell in Saturday’s B&L Transport 170 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
In what has been a very strong season for the 20-year-old, Cindric has accumulated 15 top-ten and eight top-five finishes. He sits fifth in the driver standings, 27 points back of JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier for fourth.
“It feels so good,” Cindric said after Saturday’s race.
“Two in a row and going for three at Bristol. I’ll probably go crazy if I win three. Should be a lot of fun. This is great momentum for our group.”
Leading 46 of the 75 laps, Cindric and Bell were followed by Kaulig Racing’s A.J. Allmendinger, Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick and JRM’s Noah Gragson.
Reddick still leads the way in the standings with 929 points, 28 ahead of the second-place Bell.
Riding high entering the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 16, Cindric has produced just one top-ten finish in his three career starts at the short-track.
